Hello, I’m Miss Hope and I can’t wait to get stuck into the Year One curriculum! We are going to have so much fun together this year and learn lots of new knowledge and skills through our immersive learning opportunities. 

 

When I'm not at work, I enjoy dancing, playing the piano and spending time with family, friends and my cat Milo!

 

I'm Miss Reynolds and I am a year 1 learning support assistant. I have a passion for accessible and enjoyable education for our children here at Silkmore.  

When I'm not at work I enjoy making memories with my little girl in the great outdoors. I also enjoy getting creative with arts and crafts. 

 

I’m Mrs Marshall and I’m one of the Year 1 learning support teachers and also a schools Forest School leader. I love taking the learning outdoors, creating immersive learning in our early years setting and finding new and exciting adventures in nature.

When I’m not at work I love spending time with my family, enjoying lots of fun and creative activities.

We believe Year 1 is the year children start to become familiar with the curriculum. During this time, children are immersed into school life by completing small goals such as sitting at tables to work and becoming more independent learners.

What We Teach

The content of the National Curriculum is delivered and built upon with discrete lessons, which allow children to learn the key knowledge and skills they need later in their journey with us.

In writing, we focus on a text for a half term, gleaning fantastic vocabulary and writing structure from expert authors, before using the text as a basis for our own writing.

In Maths we follow the White Rose planning and content. This is supplemented by weekly ‘Flashback’ sessions which allow pupils to re-visit previously taught content.

Year 1 pupils also have the pleasure of taking part in the National Phonics Screening preparation of these are supported by daily lessons of phonics.

Our classroom learning is complemented by weekly PE sessions, music sessions, AIM HIGH lessons and other wider curriculum lessons.

How you can help your child

If your child is in Year 1 you can support their learning by:

• Practicing their weekly spellings
• Practicing all the times tables to help children develop instant recall of times tables 2,5 and 10
• Reading every day
• Giving them opportunities to be independent at home
• Supporting your child to access their home learning sites: MathsSeeds, Oxford Reading Owl and Lexia.
• Supporting with Set 1 and 2 phonics sounds
