I’m Mr Leese and I’m the Year 4 class teacher. I am new to the Silkmore family I’m keen to get stuck into the engaging Mini Missions and immersive curriculum.
When I’m not at work, I love being involved in sports, particularly cricket and rugby.
I’m Mrs Chase and I’m one of the Year 4 learning support teachers and also the schools Forest School leader. I love taking the learning outdoors and finding new and exciting adventures in nature.
When I’m not at work I love going on long walks, particularly in the forest as it keeps my mental health strong.
I’m Mrs McEnhill and I’m another Year 4 learning support teacher. At Silkmore my passion is teaching and learning with children on the Special Educational Needs register. I love supporting children in making those vital, small steps of learning that together go a long way to creating the best future.
When I’m not at work I love flower arranging, and spending time with my family.
I'm Mr Wynn and I'm another Year 4 learning support teacher and I also deliver PE and after school clubs to other classes.
Meet the teachers
We believe Year 4 is the year children start to become truly independent learners and really find their individual learning preferences and styles.
What We Teach
The content of the National Curriculum is taught through 15 exciting Mini Missions across the year. These Mini Missions allow the children to become journalists during ‘August and his Smile’ to detectives during ‘Untangling the Greeks’.
One of the sparkles of Silkmore is the unknown nature of the upcoming Mini Missions and the way they are brought to life to hook and engage every pupil. Therefore we don’t like to publish the names and content of the upcoming Mini Missions. However if you would like further information about our curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
In Maths we follow the White Rose planning and content. This is supplemented by weekly ‘Flashback’ sessions which allow pupils to re-visit previously taught content.
Year 4 pupils also have the pleasure of taking part in the National Times Table Check and we use regular practise alongside Times Table Rock stars to help children prepare for this assessment.
Our classroom learning is complemented by weekly PE sessions, Forest School sessions, AIM HIGH lessons and Commando Joes team building.
How you can help your child
If your child is in Year 4 you can support their learning by:
Practising their weekly spellings
Practising all the times tables to help children develop instant recall of all facts up to 12x12
Reading every day
Giving them opportunities to be independent at home
Allowing children to practise basic ICT skills such as typing, editing and presenting work
Supporting your child to access their home learning sites: Timestable Rock stars, Maths Seeds, Oxford Reading Buddy and Lexia.
If you’d like any further information about Year 4, please contact the school.
