What have our children been learning in Year 2 across the Summer Term?
Summer 1 Learning
What an exciting half term we have had in Year Two. Our half term began with us becoming historians, finding out all about the great fire of London. Using a variety of sources, we asked and answered a range of historical questions and discovered the huge impact that this event had. We made comparisons between 1066 and the present day which made us feel very lucky to be living in the present day. Our parents and families joined us in school to work alongside us to complete our design technology projects where we created a replica Tudor house that was on fire. We had great fun working with our families and enjoyed sharing our knowledge of the great fire of London with them.
As part of our maths work we have been focusing on fractions. We have learnt what a fraction is and explored ½, ¼, 1/3, 2/4, ¾ of shapes and amounts. During this work we even discovered that ½ is the same 2/4.
Throughout the half term we have continued to visit our local care home, Maple Court. Working with the residents, we created place mats for the care home’s garden party to celebrate the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. We enjoy spending time with the residents and it is fun being out and about making a difference in our local community.
Towards the end of the half term, we have been working hard on our SATs. Our learning attitudes and behaviour has been exemplary and our teachers are very proud of us all.
